"What can you get for £5.99 nowadays?"
More and more people are now jumping onto the cloud for their viewing habits, services like BBC iPlayer or paid services like Lovefilm, Sky's NOW TV and Netflix are becoming increasingly popular. Today I will be focusing on my experience setting up and using the american contender Netflix.
"Simple Setup and watch..."
I decided a few weeks ago to give Netflix ago, as I was aware of free 1 month trial. So I headed to the Play store and downloaded the Netflix app for my Android phone (GS3) and my android tablet (N7), using my phone I signed up using my Facebook account and added my card details for after free trial period, unless I decide to cancel, which was easy displayed to me with trial end date. No panicking here or working out a cancellation date. So with that done, I was able to use either device by signing in on them, success.
"What to watch"
On the TV side of things I thought there was a fantastic wide choice of shows, ranging from popular shows like Breaking Bad, Downton Abbey, till full series of other shows I used to watch and still watch like Dexter, Lost, Prison Break. Also good but not perfection selection of kids tv on offer, with good mixture also thrown in of documentary's from BBC. Channel 4 also have their awesome mix of popular shows like IT Crowd, Inbetweeners etc on display. One downside I noticed that not all season available on some shows, e.g. Modern Family only season 1 +2
Movies is a vast ocean of film goodness on Netflix, but I'll be honest with you here, you will be lucky to find any films that have been at the cinema from the last 2 years. But older than that, and Netflix has nearly got everything you could wish for, ranging from Expendables 2 till Magic Mike, Jackass 3 till Cars 2, Super 8 till Disney's Up. Every genre is packed with choice, so there should always be something that tickles your fancy
"Could a 5 yr old use it?"
Yes I don't see why not. I found it very easy to navigate app, using search feature or Netflix categories, including Popular, New Releases, Suggestions chosen for you, which gets better after you watch more and more on Netflix. Playing videos was easy, functions available are, play/pause, volume, seek bar, subtitles on/off, zoom button. Netflix will remember where you have watched till and sync that to other devices your using Netflix on. E.g start watching a movie on bus, then when you get home, continue watching it on your TV (via xbox, ps4, smart tv). Awesome. My home broadband is only 1mb and I still was able to use Netflix, although video was sub HD but still more than watchable.
"Final words"
My trial hasn't ended yet, but I'm seriously considering keeping Netflix on. Netflix doesnt have everything, some shows not available, some shows not all seasons available, but for only 599 pennies I think the choice is still fantastic value. If your the kind of person who hired or used to hire 2 or 3 dvds a month, then this is million times better value money wise. With Chromecast just around the corner being supported by Netflix, I'm excited to try Netflix on my tellly.
